Mikoláš Aleš (*18. 11. 1852, Mirotice - †10. 7. 1913, Praha), Czech painter, draftsman, illustrator. One of the protagonists of the Národní divadllo (national theatre) generation. He studied at the painting academy in Prague, supervised by professors Emanuel Rom and Jan Swerts. Painter of great picture cycles: Vlast, Obrazy z českých dějin a pověstí, Pohanští bohové, Obrazy z ruských bájí a dějin, Obrazy z polských dějin, Obrazy z jihoslovanských bájí a ději, etc. He was a blazonry expert.
